The research is based on the Masoretic Text

In which instances of Hebrew letters written in an irregular form are exhaustively cataloged. These are not printing errors, and although they cannot be rendered in a translation, they were preserved by the scribes in the transmission of the biblical text.

The Study of the Hebrew Alphabet

In connection with grammar and the craft of scribal work, this approach helps us understand the meaning of many of these irregularities and provides a tool for studying the biblical text. Of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, one is examined as a case study.
